Education
Bachelor of Music with Honours in Cello Performance. Conservatory training in Europe. Started the cello at age six.
About
European-trained cellist and teacher. Private studio in South Burnaby since arriving in Canada in 1999.
Training
Elvira Lagji started the cello at six. She completed a full conservatory education in Europe and earned a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Cello Performance. After graduating she held orchestral posts and performed as a cello soloist in concerts across Europe.
That background — years of daily practice, orchestral discipline, and solo work — is what she brings to every lesson.
Canada
Elvira moved to Canada with her family in 1999 and settled in Vancouver. She built a teaching studio and continued to perform. She is a member of the Vancouver Cello Club and has played with the Burnaby Symphony Orchestra, the Stradivari Ensemble (led by violinist Robert Rozek), and two piano trios — the Wrelek Trio and the Appassionata Trio.
She has also appeared in recital, including a Chopin program with pianist Win Rompf.
Teaching
Elvira is on faculty at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music. She prepares students for exams and festivals. Many have earned high marks and gone on to music schools in Canada and abroad. Students of the studio have completed advanced diplomas, including ARCT in Cello Performance.
She teaches all ages, including young children, and helps with the practical side of the instrument: setup, practice, repertoire, and nerves.
